It's finally October!!! I don't know about you guys, but this is my favorite month out of the whole year--leaves are changing colors (yellow is my favorite color), the air is crisp (I hate the heat), and there's pumpkin EVERYTHING (I'll take seven dozen cups of pumpkin spice latte please. Large, of course). All of that is great, but the real icing on the cake is the return of the Spooky. You know what I mean, AHS is back on TV, people are talking about ghost stories in the aisles of the supermarket, everyone's gearing up for Trick or Treaters to come in their costumes and getting lost, willingly, in haunted corn fields...I really love this season! And you know what else happens around this time?
A human soul gets sacrificed to the Underground through the Tithe!
At least, one will in Thornebrooke. Maybe. Possibly. That's the plan anyway.
If you haven't guessed it by now, yes, I am talking about my fictional town and the fictional happenings that go on there. The first book in the new trilogy, Tithe (Roses Red #1), releases on Halloween, and I can't wait for you guys to get your hands on it! This is honestly my favorite thing I've ever written, and these characters hold a very special place in my heart.
Since it's still a few days away (30, to be exact, but who's counting?), I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to introduce you to the three main characters!
There are going to be fun incentive packages for purchasing the book when it becomes available, and I'll begin revealing those items one by one starting this Saturday, so be sure to follow this blog by adding your email to the subscribe list at the bottom of this page! All subscribers who purchase the book will also get a little something extra in their incentive packages *wink wink*.
Just a real quick rundown, in case you haven't yet read the blurb to this book (please go do so immediately!), Tithe is a dark YA fantasy/paranormal story about a girl in love with an Unseelie faerie, and a human boy searching for his missing family member. This book is all about trust, who we give it to, why we give it, and whether or not we allow our hearts to get in the way of reality. No one is perfect.
Without further ado, please meet the three main characters of the Roses Red trilogy:
Mavek Midnight
*also known as the Midnight Prince.
*An Unseelie faerie in charge of a large group of fae. He hosts all major supernatural events--like the Tithe, or any regent crowning's.
*Has dark black hair that has a blue sheen in the moonlight, and hazel eyes.
*Has many tattoos of roses, some colored in red, others left as outlines.
*Most people find him eerily quiet, but around Arden he's pretty chatty. Even still, he always chooses his words carefully.
Eskel Montgomery
*A college student who comes to town searching for answers.
*Has blonde hair and dark blue eyes.
*Is very inquisitive, which sometimes comes off as either naïve or fearless. He's spent his entire life believing in the supernatural, so he handles life at Thornebrooke fairly well. Is intensely loyal, and thinks doing the right thing is ALWAYS the right thing.
Arden Rose Archer
*Also known as a Heartless--a cursed human competitor in this years Tithe challenge.
*Has brown hair with the ends dyed a dark green, and light brown eyes.
*Has spent her entire life aware of the Unseelie, and will do anything to protect herself and her younger sister from succumbing to madness because of them. She's had a tough time finding a support system, since most other humans can't see the Unseelie, so is relieved and grateful to have Mavek in her life.
(As you can see, there is currently no drawing for Arden. If you'd like to supply one, please get in touch with me! I'd love to put your fanart here!)
There are MANY other inhabitants of Roses Red that I can't wait for you guys to meet--Cato, for instance, is one of my personal favorites! Please check out Tithe on October 31st, available in ebook and paperback!
Also, be sure to check back here Saturday for the first item reveal for the incentive packages, and again next Tuesday for another post about Roses Red!
I'm glad you like him!
I am totally Team Eskel!!
