Hi everyone!
I see I've gained a lot of new blog followers recently (thank you!) so I thought it'd be a good time to rehash the release order of my Sci-Fi books! I've been reading the reviews and seeing that some people aren't aware that this universe started off as a regular MM Romance, without the Dark, which made me feel like this could be helpful!
The very first book I wrote in this particular universe was A Bright Celestial Sea. While the emperor, Wystan, can be a bit... aggressive with the love interest Pryor, this isn't considered a dark romance. It was a good introduction to the world and how things like the IPF work, and these characters will always be two of my absolute favorites since they helped put me on the MM book map for many readers!
The second book released was A Sea of Endless Light. Like with Bright, this book also wasn't a dark romance. The characters, Fox and Jiro, are pretty big on mutual respect and, honestly, Fox is my favorite character of all time. That being said, this was the last regular romance in this universe I wrote, at least to date.
The third book(s) released was You Will Never Know, followed by the next two books in the trilogy. This was released in three books, sort of as a test to see if darker reads were something my readers were interested in, and if they preferred series instead of stand-alone. Turned out it was yes for the first question but no for the second. This will be rereleased and repackaged as one omnibus book in early 2024 and will simply be titled, A Whisper in the Dark, which was the trilogy name. While this was my first attempt to dive into the dark romance scene, it was still a tentative toe-dip, so to speak. Each of the books get darker since my comfort level grew with each release, and that's what helped lead me to just saying screw it and write Between the Devil and the Sea without holding anything back.
This brings me to the fourth book released in this universe and by far the most popular, Between the Devil and the Sea. This book is probably still the darkest thing I've ever written, though Call of the Sea comes up pretty close. At this point, a few of my friends had read the trilogy and were like "You know, this is you being cautious. Why bother?" Apollo and Shade's story was sort of my, go big or go home, book. Fortunately, it worked out well for me! Shade mentions the Academy, something that had been mentioned in both A Bright Celestial Sea and A Sea of Endless Light, and I realized it would be a lot of fun to actually visit that place, which led me to...
Book four, Echo. Echo is the first "college" Dark Romance I've written, and I opted to stick with the darker vibe that my readers seem to prefer over the lighter/regular romance stuff. Like all my other books, this one is a standalone and can be read as such, however, I decided to mix it up and spend a bit more time on this particular planet, tossing in a few other characters I could later give their own stories to. The goal is for the vibe of each book it be different, since no two people are alike, and neither are two love stories--even of the darker variety. Because of this, a reader might love Baikal and Rabbit's more melancholy vibe, but hate Kelevra and Rin's explosive tempers.
These Silent Stars was the fifth book written in this universe. Again, while this takes place in the same timeframe as Echo, it can be read on its own, first, or after. I wrote them in a way where that's possible. I do suggest reading all of the Devils of Vitality books, but in any order that interests you! Personally, I prefer pinging around series and starting with whatever book appeals to be the most. If I didn't, and I started at the beginning because that's what everyone told me to do, and I ended up not enjoying book one, I might never make it to book two, and that would be sad. So, you can read Baikal or Kelevra or Sila in any order. Just pick whoever appeals to you most!
The sixth book, and most recent, is Call of the Sea. This just released on Halloween and so far feedback has been good! I want to take this chance to thank all of you for reading and sticking with the Devils for three books!
I do plan on continuing in this universe for the foreseeable future, and there will be three other books in the Devils of Vitality series, after which I'll branch back off to different planets in either the same or neighboring galaxies! Wren and Sun from A Whisper in the Dark will also be getting their own book in early 2024 titled A Shout in the Light, which I'm really excited about!
It's been so much fun to see how my books have changed and the way this universe has expanded and grown. Before I branched off into MM Sci-Fi, I was mostly a YA author with very few readers. I think this is a great example of how sometimes taking a risk and doing 180 works out in the end!
Thank you to everyone who's ever picked up one of my books, be it a part of this universe or not! I hope you're all already excited for Kazimir and Nate's story, Devil May Care, which will ideally be released in January! I already have the cover image. If you're interested in getting a peek early, let me know in the comments and I may just include it in a post in the coming weeks!
The first book I read was Between the Devil and the Sea and I loved it, then I read the Whisper trilogy and loved it, after that I read Echo, I've read Echo 3 times now, I read These Silent Stars, but it didn't hit the same way Echo did and after I read Call of the Sea which I've read twice already. I can't wait for the next book, I'm excited. I love your college themed books and in general your books, they grab right from the get go. Thank you for all your hard work.
Apollo and Shade's story was my introduction to your writing and I still have a soft spot (Uhh...for some reason that term doesn't seem right 🤣) for their story. I'd love to see a peek of Devil May Care's cover!
